Hughenden

Hughenden is located on the Flinders Highway in North West Queensland, halfway between Townsville and Mount Isa, above the Great Artesian Basin.

Explore the Flinders Discovery Centre to see ‘Hughie’, a seven-meter Muttaburrasaurus, and an impressive fossil collection. Experience the history of sheep production at the ‘Shearing Straggler’ exhibit. Explore Outback history and art features by following the windmill blades through Hughenden and visit the full-bodied Muttaburrasaurus replica, ‘Mutt’. Outside Hughenden, visit Mount Walker for stunning views and Porcupine Gorge National Park, often called Australia’s ‘Little Grand Canyon’. Take scenic drives along the Basalt Byway, the Eromanga Sea Byway, and the Flinders River Byway for different landscapes and experiences.
