Experienced Adelaide travellers are keen to do their bucketlist trip to the Tip of Australia by driving inland and then skipping to the coast once they are in Queensland to explore the Sunshine Coast, Agnes Waters and Whitsundays along the way north. Around 25% expect to visit family and friends on their coastal journey and are not keen on making bookings despite travelling in the peak June and July period to get away from the cold.

Lots of people have already travelled to Queensland and are planning on coming back to explore different regions. Outback trips are popular with inquiries for the Savannah Way and Cape York and a focus on station farm stays rather than free camping. Quite a few are postponing their outback trip to 2026 to coincide with the Big Red Bash.

Those looking for shorter holidays are heading to Southeast Queensland and Queensland Country including the Scenic Rim, with some planning to go as far as Bundaberg and solid interest in Central Queensland. Fly/drive is the preferred way to get to Cairns and then hire a car to explore the Atherton Tablelands, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef.

Inquiries were predominately from seniors wanting to escape the cold and families planning for the school holiday periods, with strong interest from families in the Dinosaur Trail. There are still a few families researching their round trip of Australia. Young couples were talking about Cape York, Whitsundays, and Outback hot springs.

Most of the visitors to the Drive Queensland stand were from a 100 km radius of the city with 90% from Adelaide suburbs close by. The booth’s large map draws people in and helps the team to initiate conversation. There were lots of positive comments about the suggested itineraries in the Drive Queensland brochure saying they are a great inspiration.
